What to Do Before You Start a New Job

  • Figure out transportation: Planning how to get to and from work is very important. Click here for some tips.

  • Get child care: Click here for information on finding child care.

  • Read the employee manual: Before you start work, make sure that you know the rules, including what to wear to work and how much sick and vacation time you get.

  • Sign up for the group health insurance plan: Usually, it will take 30 to 90 days before your health insurance kicks in so, sign up for the company plan (if you qualify) as soon as you can. And if you've been using COBRA for your insurance, tell the plan administrator when your new insurance coverage will start.

  • Get clothes: Click here for tips on getting clothes to wear to work.
