Kenya's Story
Kenya, a 28-year old waitress, has been working at the same restaurant for 5 years. Her day usually starts at 6:00 am, so she and her 10-year old daughter can get ready for school and work. Kenya works the morning and afternoon shifts and by the end of the day, she's too tired to stand. For all her hard work, Kenya only earns $8.00 an hour with tips, barely enough to take care of herself and her daughter.

After thinking about it and talking to her mother, Kenya decided she was ready for a change. Without a high school diploma, she didn't have many options. "I want to do more with my life," Kenya said, "I'm going to get my GED and build a better life for me and my child."
