Carolyn Robbins has worked as a funeral director apprentice
for two years. She works under the supervision of an experienced
funeral director. She has some of the same responsibilities
as a funeral director.
She likes the variety in her job. Carolyn brings bodies
from the hospital to the funeral home. She embalms the bodies.
She also coordinates funeral services and orders flowers.
Working as an apprentice will help prepare Carolyn to become
a funeral director.
Carolyn will need to attend one year of mortuary school
and take state and national exams before she can become
a licensed funeral director. She encourages people to job-shadow
a funeral director or look for an apprenticeship before
considering a career in funeral services.
"There are a lot of emotions involved," Carolyn
says. "And there are things you'll have to do
that aren't very glamorous. But, you can help people
get through very difficult times. That's very rewarding."
